My International Audience
Like many who become obsessed with their own blogs, I inserted an (invisible) counter from Statcounter.com to keep track of how many people come to my site each day. It is interesting to watch as the graph spikes when I add new pics and how it dwindles when I am not active. If someone came to my site from a link on someone else's page, I can see where they came from. Oddly enough, I can see what operating system they use and what their screen resolution is.
Today while browsing through all this mostly useless information, I came across this graph of which countries the last 100 visitors came from.
America and Japan make obvious sense. I have a few Australian friends here so that doesn't seem too odd. But Belgium? Belgium? Do I know anyone in Belgium? None of Statcounter's stats have helped me figure out how someone from Belgium might arrive at my page. My best guess is that it is a friend of a friend who is browsing various Japan blogs. Still, I find it bewildering. If you happen to be from Belgium, please leave a comment. Don't be bothered by this post though, I am gladdened by the international appeal of "Chris in Japan."

Just to narrow things down somewhat, I am NOT from Belgium, and I was NOT there recently.
I hope that helps.
thanks, that helps.
Update - France and the Bahamas have joined the crowd.
Chris, what an extraordinarily helpful post. I immediately signed up for Statcounter, too. I've been playing with it all day, and I also got one visitor from Beligium. Apparently he or she uses Firefox 1.0.4, Windows XP, has 1152by864 resolution, and stayed at my blog for 0 seconds. Many thanks for giving me something to do today! (besides teaching kids how to tell me when their birthday is, that is).
ooh... mysterious. now i have one visitor from "unknown"
I wonder if this would pick up on, like, internet spiders or anything (what with the 0 second visits and all). That said, not from Belgium, but you probably figured that out. But that's a fun little tool.
well, reading on the statcounter site, it cant actually measure how long someone is at your site. but, if one person visits two pages on my site, it can determine how long in between those pages the person visited for. Basically if someone comes, only looks at the main page, and leaves, then it will come out as zero.
